Turkey: When training rhymes with disrupting

IATA Training is the world’s largest aviation training organization, offering more than 350 courses across 90 countries. In 2017, over 100,000 students participated in one of IATA’s courses using a mix of digital and in-classroom teaching. IATA has pioneered the use of innovative methods, including distance learning and virtual reality technology, to ensure its courses remain both accessible and up-to-date. IATA collaborates with partners all around the globe, both centers/facilities and fellow organizations, including the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Airport Council International (ACI), and Eurocontrol

The Global Training Partners Conference (GTPC) is an event IATA organizes every year in different parts of the globe. It is a unique opportunity for professionals in training and personnel development to gather and discuss the latest trends in training that are influencing and shaping learning deliverables, all the while offering all participants the possibility to exchange and network. This year, Istanbul is home to the conference from April 16th to 18th, offering a specific focus on enhancing competencies in the workforce, under the theme: “Navigating Together through Disruption in Learning”.
The event is hosted and sponsored by Turkish Airlines and its training academy (TAA).

TAA is one of IATA’s biggest regional training partners. It has delivered more than 75 IATA classes to thousands of students over the last two years. As Funda Calisir, IATA’s Area Manager Turkey, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan puts it: “This impressive achievement highlights TAA’s strong commitment to developing the future of our industry by reaching out to the next generation of leaders”. Istanbul has provided IATA with a platform to discuss the role of technology-related training – the effects of 'disruptive innovations', and how these innovations are affecting careers for our young professionals.

A few words on Turkey
Air transport is a crucial element of Turkey’s growth strategy, and the country is rapidly becoming a major global aviation powerhouse, as our forecasts illustrate.

Our 20-year passenger forecast suggests that by 2035, Turkey will enter the top 10 of global air passenger markets, with traveler numbers increasing to 173 million a year. For Rafael Schvartzman, IATA’s Regional Vice President Europe: “Turkey and its key industry stakeholders have perfectly understood the benefits aviation can bring to its inhabitants, as well as to the economy. We are looking forward to the opening of the Istanbul New Airport, a much awaited and necessary piece of infrastructure, which will perfectly symbolize this illustrious city’s personality and contribution to the world”.
