The airline industry is moving towards a more efficient and cost-effective technology system by implementing an open technology environment with modern API communication standards, as per guidance of the Digital Transformation Advisory Council (DTAC), one of the Advisory Councils advising the IATA Board of Governors that has set a strategy to establish an open data ecosystem through the adoption of open APIs, standards, and architecture.
In order to support this transition, IATA has launched its dedicated Open API Program webpage. The program aims to promote discoverability and connectivity of digital capabilities, such as APIs and data, from trustworthy industry parties, as well as to promote the adoption and collaboration on industry API standards and best practices.
The adoption of open APIs and standards is a crucial step towards creating a more connected, efficient, and innovative aviation industry.
