New Distribution Capability: Progress Report
The Board was highly engaged by the preview of the NDC Demonstrator, later showcased at the AGM. The demo showed the potential of NDC in terms of rich content and personalization.
Those customer benefits will be key drivers for industry adoption of NDC. The Board endorsed the NDC strategy based on delivery of standards, technology, advocacy with regulators and associations, and communication and promotion of the NDC demonstrator.
The AGM adopted the NDC resolution, which re-affirms the industry’s commitment to modernize air travel distribution and clarifies the conditions of implementation of the NDC standard. Those clarifications should help regulators to make a decision in the near future and approve the NDC standard. Once the regulatory green light is received, IATA will concentrate its efforts on tackling the obstacles to market adoption.
The next milestone for NDC will take place on 29-31 October at the World Passenger Symposium in Dublin. We expect the results of the first NDC pilots to be demonstrated. On the regulatory side, Resolution 787 was filed with the US DOT and received many industry comments. It is now pending approval.
