IATA-FIATA Air Cargo Program
Mr. Alexandre de Juniac, Director General and CEO of IATA, and Mr. Jean-Claude Delen, Treasurer and Past-President of FIATA, welcomed forwarder and carrier representatives to the inaugural meeting of the IATA – FIATA Air Cargo Program’s Governance Board.
The IATA – FIATA Air Cargo Program (IFACP) is the culmination of almost five years of negotiations between carriers and forwarders on the replacement of the current global IATA Cargo Agency Program, which has been in place for more than half a century.
Mr. de Juniac commented that “Air cargo is an important industry. It delivers the goods that are traded across borders. In doing so underpins global supply chains and millions of jobs. That air cargo also faces many challenges is no secret. Growth has slowed and the need to modernise industry processes is acute. The partnership of IATA and FIATA to lead the sector globally as it changes is critical. And I have high expectations that our work in the renewed cargo program will deliver great value to our members, the industry and the global economy”.
Mr. Delen reinforced that after so many years of hard work from both sides, a new paradigm in the forwarder – carrier relationship has been developed. “The IFACP’s goal is to foster greater innovation in the air cargo industry, and the role of the IATA – FIATA Governance Board (IFGB) is to deliver on that objective”.
The IFGB is a program designed by the industry for the industry and the Governing Board reflects the partnership approach to program management with equal representation from airlines and forwarders.
Implementing the agreed global roll-out plan will be a key Board priority as will the overseeing of the inaugural introduction of the IFACP in Canada.
