ICHM for Shippers and Freight Forwarders

The IATA Cargo Handling Manual (ICHM) raises awareness to Shippers and Freight Forwarder in providing the guideline and working instructions of the Cargo Handling activities and also understand the door-to-door activities and their impact on the supply chain. By implementing standardised procedures for safety, security, efficiency and quality, Shippers and Freight Forwarders will help increase the flow of cargo.

Shippers’ and Freight Forwarders’ action can affect the whole supply chain, with a domino effect, and the ICHM will help them to be aware of the next entity handling their cargo which will ensure a non-disrupted movement of cargo to the consignee.

In future edition of the ICHM, Shippers and Freight Forwarders will provide input and expertise in the door-to-door processes to increase efficiency and transparency.

Benefits for Shippers and Freight Forwarders:

  • Minimising the rejections of cargo shipments with a standardised approach and consistency during the Acceptance process by Cargo Handlers
  • Speed and efficiency
  • Improved services to shippers
  • Satisfaction of their Customers
