This course focuses on techniques and strategies to plan a robust dangerous goods training program. You will learn how to develop a training session, impart learning through active learning, sequence learning activities to ensure an effective mix and flow, and conclude a training session with an emphasis on knowledge transfer so you can apply the learning back on the job. You will practice a variety of core techniques to lead adult learning, instructional design, and facilitation techniques. In addition, ample opportunity will be available to apply these techniques and strategies during the course.

This course is available at IATA Training Centers, Regional Training Partner locations, and on-demand as in-house training.

Course format

  • This classroom course provides 5 days (40 hours) of instruction delivered by an official IATA Instructor.
  • Student performance and knowledge will be evaluated on 2 examinations - DGR and Instructional Techniques


  • Participants must hold a valid DGR Category 6 certificate for the entire duration of the course they attend
  • Participants must have at least 5 years working knowledge and experience in hazardous materials and safety operations, or cargo operations
  • Recommended level is Management and Professional
  • The recommended level of language proficiency is ICAO Operational Level 4 for courses in English or equivalent for other languages.

Note: A mandatory Dangerous Goods Regulations exam for category 6 will be given to assess technical competence.

There will be a mandatory Dangerous Goods Regulations exam to assess technical competence on category 6.

Certificate awarded

An IATA Certificate of Completion is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 80% or higher on all exercises and exams. A special distinction is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 90% or higher.
