One ID will bring multiple benefits to all stakeholders: passengers, airlines/airports and governments.
The main benefits are listed below, related to the stakeholders who will benefit the most.

Passengers: seamless experience with one single identification 

One ID will provide a “seamless” journey and improve the overall passenger experience. Passengers will no longer need to juggle between different documents. With a single identification, they will be easily recognized by all service providers. This will eliminate repetitive processes, resulting in less queuing. Ultimately, it will enable passengers to arrive at the airport ready to fly in nearly every travel scenario.

Airlines/Airports: cost-effectiveness & efficiency

One ID will improve staff productivity by reducing time spent on manual ID checks. It will also provide real-time visibility of where passengers are in the airport process, possibly allowing smart queuing. This all will help optimize airport space efficiency. Ultimately airlines will benefit from all the passenger process improvements with happy customers, which is likely to translate into commercial opportunities. 

Governments: enhanced security

One ID will enable improvements in border, aviation and airport infrastructure security. It will help combat human trafficking and other cross-border criminal activities by reducing the possibility for individuals to cross borders under a false identity.

One ID Advisory Group Members

Along with IATA, under the One ID Task Force, the One ID Advisory Group consist of airlines, airports, governments and other industry partners. The Advisory Group provides direction and guidance on to the project and the different Expert Groups.

Expert Groups

The Expert Groups work on specific subject matters to support and help deliver One ID project deliverables. They are composed of airports, airlines, governments, Strategic Partners, and intergovernmental organizations. In 2018, the four Expert Groups are:

• Business Case: Develop the industry business case including the cost/benefit analysis and KPIs to measure benefits.
  
• Process/Operational: Define operational process steps for One ID to-be process, including different scenarios or intermediate steps to achieve desired vision and to-be process.
• Legal/Governance: Develop industry guidance (industry examples and best practices) on privacy compliance. Assess and develop guidance documentation and lessons learned on Operational Trust Frameworks. 
• Technology: Assess existing technologies and roadmap (including biometric recognition, identity management platform, Trusted Digital ID) and define gaps and requirements for recommended practices and standards.
