Istanbul – The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced today that a Russian language version of the latest edition of the Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) will be released in March 2011. Recognized by the world’s airlines for over 50 years, the IATA DGR is the industry’s trusted source for preparing, packing, documenting and accepting dangerous goods for transport by air.

This IATA initiative is in line with a Memorandum of Understanding the association signed with Russian Federation in November 2009 to help develop its aviation sector in key areas like safety, security, e-freight and training. Making the internationally-recognized standard for dangerous goods handling available in Russian will not only improve safety throughout the supply chain, but will enable local training for mandatory dangerous goods expertise. The air cargo market in Russia is growing and ensuring safe transport of dangerous goods is vital for the competitiveness of Russia’s exports.

Based on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Technical Instructions and updated each year, the IATA DGR is the only field guide recognized by ICAO and is the essential reference offering the interdependent cargo supply chain a common set of rules to ensure safe and efficient transport of dangerous goods. Shippers, cargo agents and freight forwarders are responsible for ensuring compliance with regulations and can face potential fines for offering non-compliant shipments. Airline acceptance personnel use this same reference to validate shipment compliance.

In addition to international regulations, the DGR contains specific state and operator requirements including those of Russia and the Russian carriers. Supplementary material includes operational requirements, templates and detailed instructions for completing documentation.
