After the United States with the Air Cargo Advance Screening (ACAS) program launched in 2018, many countries are currently working on the implementation of their own Pre-Loading Advance Cargo Information (PLACI) regimes (EU ICS 2 Release 2, Canada PACT, UAE PLACI and UK Pre-DICT).

According to the United Nations Economic Program (UNEP), 400 million tons of plastic waste is produced yearly, and plastic production is expected to double in the next 20 years. Some estimates indicate that the air cargo industry uses around 12,500 tons of plastic annually.
