Around the world in 80 ways to pay: an in-depth analysis of global traveler payment preferences

Nuvei, a global payments technology company, and Edgar, Dunn & Company, a payment specialized consulting firm, performed a study focused on air travel and consumer experiences and preferences with regards to payment.

The study includes market research among 500 consumers per country across 10 countries (i.e., total sample of 5,000 consumers) specifically about paying online for airline tickets. It also includes a benchmark analysis of the payment page of the top 100 airlines and the top 30 OTAs.

The study aims to understand consumer needs and how airlines / OTAs serve them, in the four key areas of:

  • Flexibility: What are consumers’ payment needs and how do airlines / OTA respond?
  • Convenience: How are travel providers making it easy for their customers?
  • Transparency: How consumers’ understanding of payment processes and associated payment fees impact travel providers?
  • Security: How consumers perceive the process of buying travel from a security standpoint?
