We organized the IATA Global Aviation Data Management (GADM) workshop on April 10, 2018 at the Crowne Plaza Istanbul-Asia Hotel with the support and sponsorship of Pegasus Airlines. Explaining the importance of safety information exchange on the global, regional and state level, the event was attended by more than 65 participants from 8 countries across Europe and the Middle East, including a large representation of the Turkish civil aviation industry and Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
The aim of The IATA Global Aviation Data Management workshop was to showcase IATA’s safety tools, and share best practices on how these could be used. During the workshop, we highlighted that the number one priority for civil aviation remains to constantly seek to further improve safety. Moreover, the techniques to improve aviation safety have moved beyond the analyses of isolated accidents to data-driven trends analyses and the interaction between the links in the air transport chain.
For Rafael Schvartzman, IATA’s Regional Vice President for Europe: “Aviation is all about global connectivity. In consideration of this vision, states, regions and individual organizations must share safety information to identify common challenges, interaction gaps, and, all together, mitigate safety risks. As IATA, we provide a number of efficient tools to share all this information while ensuring a necessary level of confidentiality to sensitive data”.
The workshop was a success and IATA hopes more and more global civil aviation stakeholders understand the mutual benefits of safety information sharing. This would help enhance collaboration efforts for the continuous improvement of aviation safety. Predictive analysis using information from safe flights will be the key to preventing future accidents.
