The IATA Air Traffic Management team is pleased to announce the launch of a new Area of Involvement that will focus exclusively on, Air Traffic Management (ATM) enabled by Communications, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) technologies. Airspace is a finite resource and with growing and diverse demands of different airspace users, it is more critical than ever to look at airspace structure, capacity and efficiency. While we are seeing an increase in on-board automation, technology on the ground has not been keeping pace with technology in the air. An efficient Air Traffic Management system that ensures global interoperability, on-time operations, predictability and reduces the carbon footprint, will play a key role in ensuring the aviation industry remains viable. IATA manages an Air Traffic Management Working Group (ATM WG) that focuses on progressing concepts such as Trajectory-Based Operations (TBO) and System-Wide Information Management (SWIM). Together with airlines and Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs), guidelines and position papers are developed. Additionally, IATA has established a CNS Forum that serves as an informal group of experts focusing on:
Strategic Partners will be invited to attend virtual meetings of either the ATM WG or the CNS Forum during which airlines, Strategic Partners, Academics and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), will discuss ATM operational issues and supporting CNS technologies. Additionally, the program will provide Strategic Partners with opportunities to attend webinars and workshops focusing on industry strategy actions.
The key benefits include:
