Powering airline retailing forward through offers and orders

The airline industry is entering a new era of opportunity, driven by a dynamic technology-led transformation based around partnerships, ecosystems and platforms.

Amadeus has always been an active and vocal participant of the retailing transformation. Today, this revolves around modern offers and orders, and we are already developing next-generation and future-proofed Offer and Order Management Systems (OOMS).

With demand for travel returning, we are optimistic about the future. But we want our airline partners to go beyond capturing – to nurture this demand, to create long-term loyal and satisfied customers and to ensure solid financial returns.

In a fast-paced and increasingly competitive market, the need for simplification becomes paramount. Airlines need to deliver more automation, offer the possibility to self-service, to bring real-time decision making into offer pricing and revenue management. The adoption of cloud-based artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities is essential to deliver this transformation at scale.

Meanwhile, understanding the traveler across the end-to-end journey is business-critical. Data-driven organizations will be best placed to acquire, convert, assist and retain the traveler of the future - and deliver a simpler, more connected experience.

Introducing a cloud-based platform to our business enables us to supercharge our own expertise by allowing integrations with partners such as Microsoft, Adobe and Salesforce. Our technologies allow airlines to scale up or adapt as needed and to serve the traveler at any touchpoint during search, shop, book and pay.

A brand new operational foundation, capable of creating and fulfilling rich, dynamic and personalized offers is needed, and that is what Amadeus has been working on. Our move to the cloud started our own transformation, and we are excited at the sheer scale of innovation that we can offer as a result.

The new airline retail offering will bring new benefits, supporting smooth interoperability between airline brands, widen the type of products that can be offered by making partnerships easier to monetize, introduce new ways to sell such as gift cards or subscriptions.

The new operational platform which supports this transformation can be embraced according to the needs of the airline, and the inbuilt flexibility, modularity and openness allows airlines to respond – in real-time – to situations as they arise.

Ultimately, we see the retailing transformation as opening up new revenue opportunities, higher conversion rates, improved margins and sustainable profitability, underpinned by providing travelers with personalized and relevant offers.

In this journey, airlines can be confident that we are not only at the forefront of today’s technologies but in continuous advancement. We are investing in innovations whose full potential is still unrecognized but offer great promise to airlines and the wider industry.
