Following the initial publication of the IATA Improvised Incendiary Device (IID) Guidance in February 2025, the IATA Cargo Security Working Group commenced a revision process in May to reflect the latest developments and insights.

Version 2, officially endorsed for publication on 5 September 2025, introduces several key enhancements:

  • Expanded content on incendiary materials, weapons, and devices
  • Three new recommended security measures to mitigate IID-related risks
  • A case study highlighting the role of information sharing in effective risk management

The IID Guidance is intended to support air carriers and supply chain partners in identifying and mitigating the threats posed by IIDs to air cargo operations. Key components of the guidance include:

  • Definitions of essential terms, aligned with international standards and best practices
  • Overview of the 2024 IID incidents affecting air cargo and supply chains
  • Detailed descriptions of incendiary materials, incendiary weapons, IIDs, along with associated risks
  • A suite of optional security measures to mitigate against incendiary threats, adaptable to individual operational contexts and risk assessments
  • A case study emphasizing the importance of timely and effective information sharing, linked to 2024 IID incidents
