Airline Retailing Costs Benchmarks

IATA’s Airline Retailing Costs Benchmarks program aims to gather data on Distribution and Payment Costs from individual airlines and provide benchmarks to measure and improve cost efficiency.

In 2022, IATA successfully completed a pilot with a group of airlines to design this new service. In May 2023, the Airline Retailing Cost Benchmarks data collection exercise was launched inviting all interested airlines to participate. The goal is to provide airlines with important cost metrics that offer visibility on distribution and payment cost performance using harmonized industry Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). This information will help airlines understand the cost benefits associated with Modern Airline Retailing (MAR).

Several airlines have confirmed participation in the first data collection exercise and there is still time for interested airlines to join. The data collection process currently covers the period from January to December 2022. Access to Airline Retailing Cost Benchmarks Insights Dashboard will be restricted to participating airlines. The first release of benchmarks is expected to be released in September 2023.

Resources for Participation: Get involved and to learn how your airline can benefit from this resource at no cost. To participate, please contact dataanalytics@iata.org before end July 2023, which is the data submission deadline.
