CBTA for Dangerous Goods Instructors and Instructional Designers - Refresher

3-day (24 hours) classroom course

This course is specially designed for Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) instructors/instructional designers under the recently implemented Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) approach. You will be able to achieve two important goals simultaneously: update your knowledge and skills incorporating the latest changes and amendments to the current IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations and ensure that your instructional and course design techniques are fully aligned with the Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) approach.

Course format

• This classroom course provides 3 days (24 hours) of instruction delivered by an official IATA Instructor.
• Take this course at an IATA Training Center, Regional Training Partner, or on-demand as in-house training.
• Student performance will be based on an assessment.

Prerequisites

• Participants must present proof of successful completion of one of the following courses taken in the last 2 years:
  • Professional Skills for DGR Instructors or an equivalent course
  • Competency-Based Training for Dangerous Goods Instructors
  • Competency-Based Training for Dangerous Goods Instructional Designers
  • Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) - Instructor Refresher
  • Alternatively, participants can present an old (relevant) DGR category certificate (tasks or functions they instruct) if still valid for the duration of the course.
• Please note that the old DGR Category certificates are only valid for 2 years and must cover the entire period of this course.
• A minimum of two years of experience teaching DGR courses is recommended.
• Note: A mandatory Dangerous Goods Regulations exam will be given to assess technical competence.
• Recommended level is Advanced.
• The recommended level of language proficiency is ICAO Operational Level 4 or the equivalent for courses held in languages other than English.

• Detailed discussions and interpretation of the latest changes and amendments to the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations
• Review of the forthcoming changes to the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations based on the next iteration of ICAO TI
• Comprehensive review and update of the now fully implemented CBTA approach to Dangerous Goods (DG) training

• Interactive group activities and special problem-solving exercises
• Discussions and exchange of experiences concerning the implementation of DGR in the workplace
• Assessment (mandatory DG exam and presentation)
• Delivery of short presentations (10-15 minutes)

An IATA Certificate of Completion is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 80% or higher on an assessment. A special distinction is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 90% or higher.
