IATA’s Safety Management Simulation is a collaborative, multi-player simulation exercise that will immerse you in a realistic, risk-free airline operating environment where you will conduct a safety risk assessment. As a member of an airline operational management team (with up to 5 other team members), you will be collaborating with your team in real-time. Your challenge: to analyze safety risks under varying conditions within the simulation on the best strategy for your organization to maintain safe and secure operations. You’ll need to make critical decisions, provide recommendations and take the necessary actions based on your team’s evaluation.
Over 2 days, you will have to work collaboratively as a team to overcome the safety issues within the simulated operational environment and demonstrate the importance of implementing an effective safety management system (SMS). The simulation tool reflects a ’real-world’ environment for you to put these safety management concepts into practice. You’ll expand your critical thinking skills, learn to manage group dynamics and master decision-making and leadership in the context of addressing safety risk scenarios. During each round of play you will address different challenges, which will involve analyzing information on safety data, risk analysis and other associated information, and determining how much of that information to communicate to your teammates. Failure to accurately communicate and analyze information has consequences on team performance.
