System Wide Information Management (SWIM)

3-day (24 hours) classroom course

Gain a comprehensive understanding of System Wide Information Management (SWIM) and its role as a foundational enabler of modern Air Traffic Management (ATM). IATA’s System Wide Information Management (SWIM) course explores the drivers behind SWIM development, including growing air traffic demand, increasing operational complexity, and the need for globally interoperable information sharing. You will examine SWIM concepts, architecture, governance, information services, and information exchange models, including the Aeronautical Information Reference Model (AIRM). The course also covers how SWIM supports key aviation modernization initiatives such as Flight and Flow Information for a Collaborative Environment (FF-ICE), Flight Objects, and Trajectory-Based Operations (TBO). Through practical discussion of implementation considerations, governance frameworks, regional programs, and industry initiatives, you will develop the knowledge required to support the planning, implementation, and operational use of SWIM within your organization and across the wider aviation ecosystem.

Course format

• This classroom course provides 3 days (24 hours) of instruction delivered by an official IATA Instructor.
• Take this course at an IATA Training Center, Regional Training Partner, or on-demand as in-house training.
• Student performance will be based on an assessment.

Prerequisites

• Recommended level is Entry-level and Intermediate.
• The recommended level of language proficiency is ICAO Operational Level 4 for courses in English or the equivalent level for other languages.
