Edmonton International Airport: Where business meets pleasure

A gateway for transportation, connection, and innovation, Edmonton International Airport (YEG) is a self-funded, not-for-profit corporation driving economic prosperity for the Edmonton Metropolitan Region and beyond. YEG is Canada’s fifth-busiest airport by passenger traffic and the largest major Canadian airport by land area. YEG generated an economic output of over $3.2 billion and supported over 26,000 jobs pre-pandemic. From sustainability projects like the world’s largest solar farm at an airport to expansion initiatives like the Airport City Sustainability Campus, YEG is a global leader in the aviation industry.

We are proud to work symbiotically with our partners to improve the movement of goods and people around the world while offering a safe, secure, and enjoyable experience. Currently, YEG has over 50 shops, restaurants, and services in the main terminal, while the airport land houses over 250 businesses looking to expand tourism, entertainment, cargo logistics, manufacturing, sustainability, innovative technology development, and commercialization. Our Airport City Sustainability Campus and the Alberta Aerospace and Technology Centre provide opportunities for businesses to push the boundaries in fields like AI, drones, reforestation, and energy sources such as solar and hydrogen.

The Edmonton Region’s favorable business environment and availability of land for industrial development continue to drive cargo demand. In 2021, a record-setting 48,000 tonnes of cargo moved through YEG, a 5% increase over 2020. YEG’s proximity and connectivity to countries around the world provide a natural advantage and facilitate opportunities for more travel, trade, and strategic partnerships.

Our community also plays a major role in how we operate as an airport and the types of experiences we offer. We partner with more than 100 community organizations, festivals, and charities to give back to our community.

Every day, we welcome tens of thousands of visitors to YEG. Everyone who visits the airport, whether for business or pleasure, is important and should feel at home. That is why our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) commitment is driven by a simple and meaningful goal, which is to create an airport for everyone. We are proud to value diversity as a strength and understand that creating an inclusive space is both a privilege and a fundamental responsibility.

In line with our commitment to our people is our commitment to the planet. By being the first airport in the world to sign The Climate Pledge and be carbon neutral by 2040, our integration of sustainability initiatives is inherent in what we do. Whether it is replacing all our lightbulbs with LED bulbs, constructing LEED-certified terminal buildings, supporting a solar farm that will annually produce 200,000 MWh of power and offset 106,000 tonnes of CO2, building a CoGen facility that produces heat as a by-product and reduces annual carbon emissions by 8,000 tonnes or partnering with some of the world’s best clean fuel technology companies, YEG is on the cutting edge of technology, innovation, and social responsibility.

With over 50 non-stop destinations and 14 airline partners, YEG is continuously offering more flights to more places, while ensuring a safe, sustainable, and welcoming environment for all.
