“Plus ultra” (which could be translated to “Further beyond”) has served as Spain’s motto for over five centuries, and appears on the coat of arms present on the flag. It was initially a push to search for new opportunities and possibilities on the other side of the Atlantic. Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas S.A., the Spain-based carrier which became an IATA member in June 2023, adopted the motto as its name, and started operating in July 2015. Nearly a decade later, it operates a fleet of 5 Airbus A330-200 and 1 A340-300 for ACMI/wet leasing and charter flights, as well as regular scheduled flights on 6 different routes:
We interviewed Gibson Preziuso, who, after serving as Plus Ultra’s Commercial Director, became the carrier’s Communications and Industry Affairs Director in charge of the Alliances, Communications and Industry Affairs area created over a year ago.
Gibson, a polyglot Italian Venezuelan, is an air transport specialist with more than 25 years of industry experience with in-depth knowledge of American (US, Caribbean, Central American, Andean) and European (Spain, France, Italy), markets, having acquired experience at various airlines such as Air France, Alitalia, and Avior.
We are a hybrid type of airline, with global quality services at competitive prices. We offer regular transatlantic services to countries in Latin America and Africa, as well as ad hoc services (ACMI and Charter) to destinations and clients around the world. We are very close to our customers, fully aware of our role in the communities we serve, and of the importance of environmental sustainability. We are a preferred choice for industry professionals.
We are currently working on a Network Analysis together with IATA Consulting, which will allow us to establish the schedule for the opening of new routes. We firmly believe in competition and there is room for growth in the Madrid Barajas Airport hub where we have our operational base, as well as in potential markets.
Complying with the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency is of utmost importance to our company. In addition to the seal of quality it inherently brings, being part of the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) program increases our reputation in the markets we serve. Also, being an IATA member facilitates cooperation with other airlines through multilateral or bilateral interline agreements and enables us to obtain access to industry resources and data that simplify management, thus generating a better offer of services to customers, our industry’s “raison d'être”.
These events allow us to acquire critical industry knowledge and exposure to what is happening in the industry in real time. They also provide the necessary networking opportunities with other stakeholders and suppliers to generate technology transfer, which is key to making industrial processes more efficient.
Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas is committed to the goal of reducing environmental impact. Reducing carbon emissions and minimizing other negative effects on the environment are important priorities to mitigate climate change. Sustainability also means improving operational efficiency, optimizing resources, and reducing waste at Plus Ultra, and we are currently in the midst of joining the IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) Program.
