Before your travel

IATA is providing a visa invitation letter but cannot guarantee your visa issuance. In case you need it, answer “Yes" to the visa letter question during your registration: you will have to enter all the requested details for the letter to be generated. Note that it is mandatory to be fully registered to the WDS to get it. Please ensure you check your visa requirements as soon as possible to prevent any delay in your visa application.

Arrival to Singapore

Getting from the airport to the venue

 

  • The World Data Symposium will be held at the Shangri-La Singapore (Shangri-La Singapore, 22 Orange Grove Road, Singapore 258350). It is a 30-to-40-minute drive from the Changi Airport, or 20-to-30-minute drive from Seletar Airport. 
  • In both airports delegates can book private hire cars from Grab, CDG Zig, GoJek, Tada and Ryde for a ride via each transport provider’s app. In addition, at Changi Airport, there are taxis for hire in the arrival areas of Terminals 1, 2, 3 and 4 and they have a 24-hour Ground Transport Concierges (GTC) that offers transfers to any destination in Singapore; at Seletar Airport, there is a taxi stand located outside the Departure Hall.

Getting around the city

 

  • Taxi  
    • Taxis can be flagged on the street, taken at a designated taxi stands or booked through the different taxi operators hotlines or apps in some of them. Taxis are metered, but surcharges may change with timing, route and choice of service used.  
  • Ride Hailing Apps 
    • Ride hailing applications included to get out of the airports, are also available in Singapore allowing you to book a ride from your desired pick-up point to your destination; the companies mentioned are  Grab, CDG Zig, Gojek, Ryde and TADA. 
  • Public transport 
    • The public transport system in this city is efficient and fast; there is a large network of routes with the Mass Rapid Transit and bus systems.

In Singapore in the month of April the minimum average temperature is 25.3 °C (77.54 °F) and the maximum is 32.4 °C (90.32 °F). The average rainy days are 15, mean thunderstorm days are 20 and mean lightning days are 2.

Power plug

 

Singapore uses power plugs and sockets (outlets) of type G. The standard voltage is 230 V at a frequency of 50 Hz.

Currency

 

  • The currency in Singapore is the Singapore Dollar S$  (SGD). 
  • Tips are not mandatory nor customary but a gesture of appreciation. 
  • Contactless payments are widely accepted (including public transport), but to feel more confortable feel free to carry some cash.  
  • Tourists can claim a refund on the 9% Goods and Services Tax (GST). More information can be found in a GST Guide.

  • MyTransport App can be used for public transport routes and timings.  
  • Singapore MRT map, to overview the MRT system. 

Smoking regulations 

 

  • E-Vaporisers 
    • Purchasing, possessing or using e-vaporisers (even e-vaporisers products) is illegal. More information is provided in the governmental website.
  • Smoking 
    • Smoking in Singapore is prohibited in buildings, retail food establishments, transport nodes, public service vehicles and sports facilities. There exist smoking areas that are designated. The National Environment Agency of Singapore develops on its website the prohibited and permitted areas. 

 

While at the event

  • Dress code: The dress code for the event is business casual. 
  • Wi-Fi: There is Wi-Fi available in the venue. 
  • Event app: The app will be available 6 weeks before the event, displaying more information such as the floor plan and the registration on-site opening hours. Further information on how to access will be shared here soon.
