Infectious Substances

Infectious substances are materials that contain pathogens. These micro-organisms (including bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi) and other agents can cause disease in humans or animals.

Environmentally Hazardous Substances

Certain materials can be a threat to the nature and adversely affect people's health. To classify them, the IATA DGR refers to the criteria for environmentally hazardous substances of the UN Model Regulations (pdf).

Job aid/checklist for shipments that do not require a DGD

 The DGR 8.2.3 sets out provisions for dangerous goods for which a transport document is not required. IATA has developed a Job Aid (pdf) to assist operators perform checks when accepting such dangerous goods.

Safety Risk Assessment

An updated guidance document, Carriage of Cargo, Mail and Baggage – Guidance for Operators (pdf), has been issued to support operators in meeting ICAO requirements (Annex 6, Chapter 15 – Cargo Compartment Safety) for conducting safety risk assessments. The document provides guidance on potential issues to consider during a safety risk assessment, along with possible mitigation measures to reduce risks to an acceptable level.
