Electronic Dangerous Goods Shipper's Declaration (e-DGD)
The air cargo industry recognized the need for a digital and paperless process to manage the IATA Dangerous Goods Shipper's Declaration (DGD) among various stakeholders in the air cargo supply chain.
Changes incorporated in 2009 in the ICAO Technical Instructions enable and support the use of electronic data for DGD, which can be shared using, for example, the IATA Cargo XML standard (XSDG) developed for the industry.
Digitalizing Dangerous Goods, One Declaration at a Time
Digitalization is transforming the management and approval of Dangerous Goods consignments across the air cargo supply chain. As part of this transformation, IATA has launched DG Digital.
DG Digital is IATA’s online tool for capturing, submitting, and sharing the electronic Dangerous Goods Declaration (eDGD). It can be used as a standalone solution or as a fully integrated module within DG AutoCheck.
DG Digital enables shippers, freight forwarders, and other supply-chain partners to digitally exchange high-quality, validated DGD data, eliminating paper exchanges, reducing manual entry, and supporting IATA’s end-to-end dangerous goods digital transformation vision.
Your starting point for end-to-end digital transformation
DG Digital sits at the start of the dangerous goods digitalization process. It allows industry stakeholders to:
- Capture the DGD data in a structured, digital format
- Digitally transmit the eDGD to DG AutoCheck
- Trigger automated Acceptance Checks performed by airlines and ground handlers
- Enable faster, more reliable approval of DG consignments
Captured data can be previewed, exported to PDF, and printed in the standard IATA layout when required.
Accelerating DG digitalization across the industry
DG Digital helps the industry accelerate DG digitalization and reduce dependence on manual processes.

Key benefits include:
- Faster and leaner DG process
- Improved data quality and information accuracy
- Enhanced transparency and faster updates
- Enables paperless operations
- Improved customer experience
- Faster operational workflows for NOTOC, warehouse planning, and flight operations
- Secure, structured digital data shared across the chain
