Be knowledgeable about public international aviation law and how it relates to your aviation job. Designed for non-lawyers, this course applies to airlines, air navigation service providers, airports and civil aviation authorities amongst others, and was developed in partnership with the EUROCONTROL Institute of Air Navigation Services [GEN-LAW].

This course is available at IATA Training Centers and Regional Training Partner locations, and on-demand as in-house training.

Course format

  • This classroom course provides 5 days (40 hours) of instruction delivered by an official IATA Instructor.
  • Student performance will be based on an assessment

Prerequisites

  • There are no prerequisites for this course
  • Recommended level is Entry-level and Intermediate
  • The recommended level of language proficiency is ICAO Operational Level 4 for courses in English or the equivalent level for other languages.

  • Traditional and current mechanisms of cooperation between airlines and subsequent legal issues
  • Liability in air transport: general principles, liability of the carrier, aircraft operator, ANSPs, airport operators, manufacturers and Civil Aviation Authorities and their employees
  • The consequences of an accident or incident
  • New developments and disruptors: environmental issues; commercial space travel; UAS/ UAV/ drones
  • EU aviation law and the Single European Sky

Who should attend

Certificate awarded

An IATA Certificate of Completion is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 70% or higher on all exercises and exams. A special distinction is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 90% or higher.
