The SeMS Competency Test is an industry benchmark of Security Management System (SeMS) knowledge. Supported by examination guidelines, the Competency Test establishes a harmonized way of assessing the SeMS compliance of individuals (SeMS Managers, IOSA security auditors) through a standardized, objective and transparent validation mechanism (compliance check). Over the past ten years, IATA has developed tools to support SeMS implementation, including IOSA guidance, SeMS training and the SeMS Manual, which are key to the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) program.

The results of this assessment could be used for qualifications check during recruitment; quality control; or to design an individual professional development plan (including IATA offering). It can also help to professionalize SeMS related positions by linking the assessment results with job roles (SeMS/security managers, security supervisors, auditors, instructors).

Product format

• This is a self-study Competency Test, which includes a Test Guide with links to additional resources. It will take you approximately 6 hours to complete, depending on your previous knowledge and experience.
• The Test Guide is provided in e-book format for you to download.
• You will have 12 months to complete the preparation and test (enrollment validity), which starts from the date you purchase the product. After the enrollment validity expires, the users will not be able to take the test.

Prerequisites

• Participants should have prior knowledge of Security Management System, IATA Security Management Systems– SeMS course, IATA SeMS Manual and other SeMS related documents.

Recommended level

The recommended level for this course is Intermediate and Advanced.

• Method: Unsupervised online exam. The Competency Test can be taken at any time at your convenience
• Format: 50 multiple-choice questions
• Time allowance: 1.5 hours
• Passing grade: 80% correct answers
• Distinction: 90% correct answers. Please note that a distinction grade is required to become an IOSA SEC Auditor.
