Amadeus: Accelerating the automation of passenger processes and improving the traveler experience

While the travel industry is gradually welcoming back travelers, airlines and airports need to optimize their processes to meet the evolving regulations and new travelers' expectations. This situation results in an urgent need to increase the automation of passenger flows, especially with the high-stake summer season just around the corner in the northern hemisphere.

Launched during the pandemic, solutions like Amadeus Traveler ID - which has already been deployed by 17 airlines and verified 13 million documents worldwide - have proven that document verifications could be performed in advance of a trip. With such a solution integrated in the existing airline flows, travelers being denied boarding for having the wrong health documentation or carrying an expired passport could be a thing from the past. Self-service passports verifications and automatic health document checks, coupled with modern access control systems like biometric gates, have the potential to shorten queues at the airport, minimize manual checks and improve the traveler experience.

Assembling the building blocks to deliver a more enjoyable airport experience

The technologies are all already here. Travel documents can be digitalized from the travelers’ mobile phones, notifications can be sent between booking and the departure day to alert about changes in regulations or compliance issues with a document. So, these steps could be taken care of before even going to the airport. Auto Bag Drop units and check-in kiosks serve to improve passenger flows and reduce time spent queuing. Amadeus Biometric solutions, from enrolment to check-in, bag drop, security, lounge access and boarding, create stress-free passenger experiences and are already in use at major airports. Global travel tech solutions, like Amadeus Traveler ID can act as orchestrators to mesh a set of local partners’ solutions and support airlines. Those technologies operating together could be instrumental in offering a frictionless experience to passengers rebuilding their confidence and bringing back the joy of travel!

And the path to frictionless travel doesn’t stop in the air!

With their potential, solutions like Amadeus Traveler ID can improve the traveler experience even further. Our vision is that travel companies could not only pre-check traveler documentations and pre-set for biometric gates but also pre-fill hotel registration cards, digitalize driving licenses and turn a traveler’s mobile phone into a digital key for a hotel room or car rental.

All-in-all, with the right partners and technologies, travel companies can bring the traveler experience to the next level by accelerating the digitalisation and automation of processes and enable a better experience for travelers.
