The city of Rome, the Eternal City, the Capital of the World, needs no introduction. Regarded as the birthplace of Western civilization – after all, it Ancient Rome gave rise to all our current systems of law – its history spans 28 centuries, and the seminal moments of Europe’s past are reflected in its architecture. From the Circus Maximus and Forum, via the Colosseum and the Pantheon, to the Baths of Caracalla and the Arch of Constantine, you can envisage Ancient Rome over a period of a millennium. Medieval churches with mosaics and frescoes take us from the pagan to the Christian era, and form the bridge to the Renaissance. A major world center of the Renaissance, second only to Florence, Rome was profoundly marked by the period. The many palazzi and piazzi were built during this time. The modern-day usage of some of the buildings brings us firmly back to the present: the Palazzo del Quirinale and the Palazzo Chigi are now the official residences of, respectively, the Italian president and prime minister. The Palazzo Montecitorio, built along with many of Rome’s fountains in the Baroque period that followed, is now the Chamber of Deputies.
But if history isn’t your thing, Rome has much more to offer. There’s fashion, food and film. Visit the designer boutiques on the Via dei Condotti. Sample typical Roman cuisine in the countless trattorie and ostarie, or locate the best ice cream from the many gelatarie. Perhaps you’d like to tour the city following the scenes of Felllini’s La Dolce Vita, filmed at the famous Cinecittà Studios, where numerous recent and classic movies and TV series have been produced? Or you could choose to visit the locations of the 1960 Olympics, that combined both ancient and purpose-built sites. Or tour the many museums, art galleries and theaters. In short, Rome offers a cultural cornucopia to delight all your senses.
Considered one of the finest hotels in Rome, with its commanding view of the city, the Rome Cavalieri has an international reputation as Italy's premier hotel for business and conferences. Perched on the Monte Mario, the hotel offers a comfort and opulence that will make you feel like Ancient Roman nobility.
Its plush furnishings mix modern comfort and palatial elegance. Its prestigious art collection brings together 1000 pieces including paintings, tapestries, statues, furniture and other artifacts dating from the 16th to the 20th century. Its award-winning luxury spa was modeled on Ancient Roman baths, and boasts four pools, a Turkish bath and saunas. It also offers 3-Michelin-star dining, the only restaurant in Rome with such an accolade, and 15 acres of Private Park.
The Legal Symposium 2018 was held from 27 February to 1 March in Bangkok, Thailand.
