IATA Transport of Radioactive Materials by Air aviation training course

This course is recommended for 'Personnel Responsible for Preparing Dangerous Goods Consignments' (Radioactive materials – class 7 only) as per IATA's DGR - section 1.5 and in accordance with function 7.1 in IATA's 'Dangerous Goods Training Guidance'.

Acquire the skills and knowledge to pack and ship radioactive materials by air in compliance with the regulatory requirements of the ICAO Technical Instruction and IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) adopted from IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency). Over two days, you will examine the classification and identification of dangerous goods, with particular focus on radioactive materials, and learn how to complete the necessary documentation, marking, labelling and packaging of shipments. You will learn about the limitations to transport radioactive materials by air, as well as emergency procedures in the event of an incident or accident. This course is based on the content of on Section 10 of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR), which covers radioactive materials, along with exercises to reinforce the regulations. You will gain a thorough understanding of the documentation required, as well as the legal responsibilities of transporting radioactive materials.

Course format

  • The live sessions of this virtual classroom course are delivered by an official IATA Instructor.
  • The course will take you approximately 16 hours to complete and be held over 2 consecutive days.
  • There will be 2 live interactive virtual classroom sessions per day, each session will be 120 minutes.
  • The live sessions will require your participation, with multiple Q&A sessions and additional time spent on self-study material including projects, research, additional reading and videos.
  • Student performance will be based on an assessment.

Prerequisites

  • Recommended level is Entry-level and Intermediate.
  • The recommended level of language proficiency is ICAO Operational Level 4 for courses in English or the equivalent level for other languages.

Certificate awarded

An IATA Certificate of Completion is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 80% or higher on an assessment. A special distinction is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 90% or higher.
