IATA to host the inaugural World Sustainability Symposium in Madrid 3-4 October

The sustainability challenge is the biggest that we will face as leaders of the aviation industry.

Against the backdrop of aviation’s ambitious sustainability commitments, IATA is bringing together experts and thought leaders from across the industry and around the globe, to debate and discuss the actions and engagements needed to enable the sustainability transition.

The inaugural World Sustainability Symposium (WSS) will take place on 3-4 October in Madrid, Spain. It will feature 17 hours of expert content delivered through keynote addresses, a CEO roundtable, and interactive panel sessions, along with plenty of opportunities to network and build new partnerships. The WSS will address a broad range of topics including recent developments and technology pathways, value chain collaboration, sustainability and regulation, the role of finance in the sustainability transition and more. Exclusive side-events for IATA Strategic Partners  


During the WSS event, on 4 October Sustainability SPs will be able to attend an exclusive breakfast hosted by Marie Owens Thomsen, IATA’s SVP Sustainability & Chief Economist, and key IATA sustainability experts. This will provide an opportunity to discuss IATA's sustainability vision, program and industry roadmaps to achieve net zero by 2050 and other related topics.


For Airline Industry
Economics SPs, the annual Airline Industry Economics Workshop will also take place in Madrid this year, immediately following the WSS, on 4-5 October. The theme for this year’s Workshop is Aviation post-pandemic – balancing sustainability ambitions with new trends. As usual, the Workshop will bring together our Strategic Partners to discuss the key issues, trends and recent developments shaping the industry, and their implications for the outlook, including both activity – on a global and regional level – and financial impacts.

The Airline Industry Economics SPs are drawn from various parts of the supply chain, including industry and financial analysts and strategic advisors, OEMs, lessors, airports, aviation consultancies, and oil companies. This variety of participants ensures a range of perspectives and a guaranteed challenging and thought-provoking exchange of views, all under Chatham House rules.
