IATA Safety Management in Civil Aviation Diploma aviation training

The IATA Safety Management in Civil Aviation Diploma is a specialized program designed to equip aviation professionals with the essential skills needed to implement ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) and adopt a performance-based, data-driven approach to safety management. Spanning four courses over three years, this diploma allows you to apply strategies from the ICAO Global Aviation Safety Plan and Global Air Navigation Plan to improve both safety and efficiency in air transport operations.

Throughout the program, you will learn how to manage and support Safety Management Systems (SMS), develop and oversee State Safety Programs (SSP), and prepare for audits under ICAO’s Universal Safety Oversight Audit Program. Additionally, the diploma covers the analysis of safety data to identify emerging risks, the management of human factors in aviation, and the development of targeted programs to address infrastructure and safety deficiencies. It also provides strategies to respond to disruptions such as natural disasters and conflicts, promoting a safer global aviation environment.

What you will learn

Upon completion of this diploma, you will be able to:

  • Put into practice the strategies of the ICAO Global Aviation Safety Plan and the Global Air Navigation Plan
  • Improve safety and efficiency by applying the ICAO Standards, Recommended Practices and Procedures (SARPs), manuals and circulars
And, depending on your role:
  • Maintain your organization’s Safety Management System (SMS)
  • Develop and implement the State Safety Program (SSP) and oversee product and service providers’ SMS
  • Be prepared for ICAO under its Universal Safety Oversight Audit Program then benefit from the analysis of safety data to identify existing and emerging risks
  • Implement targeted safety programs to address safety and infrastructure deficiencies
  • Respond effectively to disruption of the aviation system created by natural disasters, conflicts or other causes
  • Discuss and manage human factors in aviation
