Application requirements

To be eligible for the IATA AvMP designation, you must be employed at the time of application and meet the minimum education and work experience requirements below:

Education Relevant full-time experience*
Master's degree     4 years
Bachelor's degree 5 years
Diploma or Certificate 8 years

Required supporting documents:

  1. Curriculum Vitae
  2. Proof of Education/Training**
  3. Letter of Motivation***
  4. Two Reference Letters****

*Non-aviation management experience, military aviation or civil airport engineering backgrounds do not qualify.
**Copy of University Degree, Trade or Professional Diploma and/or Certificate
***The letter should include the motivation behind your application for this designation
****Two reference letters from your current and previous employers detailing your job title, description and the duration of your appointment

New to the industry? You can earn your professional designation

To meet the requirements for application for the AvMP designation, you must be a graduate of one of IATA diplomas* listed below and have 2 years’ work experience within the aviation industry. The registration fees can be found in the table below.

Maintain your designation

Your IATA AvMP designation remains valid for a period of three years. To renew your designation, you must demonstrate that you have furthered your professional development over the past 36 months by earning 50 “points” by:

  • Continuing to work in the aviation industry – 10 points per year
  • Keeping your skills current by completing IATA aviation courses (all IATA courses except Cargo and Travel Agency) – 10 points per course
  • Participate in the advancement of the field as a trainer or guest speaker – 10 points per activity
  • Attend an industry-related event – 5 points per event
  • Being a member of an industry association – 5 points

The application for renewal of all applicants must be accompanied by the following supporting documents: 

Mandatory

  • Copy of your current IATA AvMP designation
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Reference letter(s) from your current and/or previous employer(s) detailing your job title, description, and duration of your appointment and supporting your work experience over the past 36 months

As applicable

  • IATA certificates for the past 36 months
  • Proof of participation as a trainer or guest speaker
  • Proof of attendance at industry events*
  • Proof of membership of an industry association*

* Receipts from the event committee/purchase, or "proof of attendance" letter
