Quality training starts with the right instructors. That is why we only work with the most qualified instructors to deliver our courses at our IATA Training Centers, in-company sessions and at Regional Training Partner locations.
We work with more than 300 official IATA External Instructors, IATA employees and sought-after consultants from around the world with at least five to ten years of experience in their respective fields. Our instructors facilitate in English, French, Spanish and Mandarin.
Each IATA Instructor undergoes rigorous assessment and instructional training to ensure they have the skills and expertise to deliver practical training with results.
Our instructors are dedicated professionals and it shows – participants consistently score our instructors over 90% on course evaluations for their knowledge of course content and ability to transfer skills in the classroom.

General Requirements
Qualifications
- Master's degree (see any additional requirements per subject area)
Facilitation
- 3 years of experience in delivering training with prior experience in virtual classroom delivery (see any additional requirements per subject area).
- Strong foundation in delivering training content.
- Strong foundation in instructional design.
- Willingness to learn how to use IATA's virtual classroom platforms and become independent in the delivery.
Tech-savvy
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint.
- Comfortable juggling between various software and online platforms.
- Comfortable to help students overcome technical issues.
- Strong communication skills and proficiency in instructional techniques.
- Ability to work with a multicultural audience.
- Able to be mindful and intentional about creating a virtual presence.
- Instruction in English: ICAO Level 5 (Extended) in English with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Instruction in a language other than English: ICAO Level 4 (Operational) in English and ICAO Level 5 (Extended) in the language of instructional delivery.
Additional requirements per area of study
Air Navigation Services
- 15 years of experience in air navigation and/or air traffic services or management with direct working experience in an Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP)
- Master's degree or MBA
Airline Operations & Quality
- 10 years of experience as a specialist, manager or director of safety/quality management in an airline
Specific course requirements:
- IOSA-related courses i.e., IOSA Airline Auditor Training (TALS-52), IOSA Airline Auditor – Flight Operations (FLT) Discipline (TALS-55), IOSA Airline Auditor – Operational Control and Flight Dispatch (DSP) Discipline (TALS-56) | IOSA current auditor status
- Flight Operations Management - Introduction (TALP-03) | Pilot experience
- ISAGO-related courses i.e., ISAGO for Auditors (TALS-08), and ISAGO for Ground Service Providers (TALS-09) | ISAGO current auditor or IOSA current auditor for GRH or SEC or CGO disciplines
Airline Safety
- 10 years of experience as a specialist, manager or director of safety/quality management in an airline
Specific course requirements:
- Emergency Planning and Response for Airlines (TALP-04) | ERP manager experience or proven experience in the area
- Crew Resource Management (CRM) Implementation (TALS-44) | CRM experience or pilot experience
Airport and Ground Ops – Operational
- 10 years of experience as a specialist, manager or director of an airport and/or ground-handling operations
Airport Management and Planning
- 10 years of experience as a specialist, manager, or director of management and/or planning
Airline Business Management
- 5 years of experience in a commercial department in the aviation industry (sales, network, fleet, revenue management) and government affairs
Cargo
- 10 years of experience as a specialist, manager or director of cargo management and/or operation
- 5 years of experience delivering training
Specific course requirements:
- All cargo management courses | 10 years of experience in cargo airline with a background in strategic management, revenue management, network and route profitability management, sales and key account management.
- All cargo operations and handling courses | 10 years of experience in cargo warehouse operations, ULD/palletization handling and build-up, special cargo handling (AVI, PER, PIL and DGR) live animals, perishable, temperature-controlled cargo and dangerous goods.
Civil Aviation
- 15 years of experience in civil aviation management or government regulation of aviation
- Solid knowledge of ICAO Strategic Objectives, SARPs, concepts, best practices and regulatory affairs
- Direct working experience with Civil Aviation Authorities (CAAs)
Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR)
- 5 years of experience in operations with dangerous goods
- 5 years of experience delivering training
- Aviation and cargo industry experience an asset
Specific course requirements:
- DGR courses | DGR certified minimum from the last 5 years and/or a proven record of DG training delivery; Train the Trainer certified and/or authorized to teach by local CAA, if required.
Data Science & AI
- 5-10 years as a data scientist/consultant/project manager preferably in aviation
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Data Science, AI or Data Analytics
Environment
- 5 years of experience in noise, emissions/waste management, carbon offset programs and aviation biofuels
- Master's degree (environmental or policy-related)
Fares & Ticketing
- 10 years of experience as a specialist, manager or director of Finance and Accounting Management in an airline
Specific course requirements:
Fares and Ticketing based in APAC, Australia, New Zealand and Americas regions | Minimum 10 years of experience in issuing tickets as a travel agent or 5 years experience of working at an airline revenue accounting department as a ticketing agent/manager in the last 3-4 years. Thorough knowledge of fare construction rules, mileage and route fares, and interpreting tickets. Working knowledge of a GDS (Amadeus/Galileo/Sabre) is desired. Understanding of Passenger Tariff Manuals and Ticketing Handbook.
Passenger Proration courses preferably from APAC, Australia, North America, Africa | Must have worked in Airline Passenger Proration and/or Revenue Accounting with 5 to 10 years in the last 3-4 years. Hands-on experience in applying MPA rules. Thorough knowledge of the MPA manual. Being part of the Proration Working Group is desirable. Nice to have: French/Spanish Fluency.
Passenger Interline Accounting preferably from APAC, Australia, North America, Africa | 10 years as a specialist, manager or director of Passenger Interline in an airline. Specific courses:
Finance and Accounting
- 10 years of experience as a specialist, manager, or director of Finance and Accounting Management in an airline
Areas of experience
- Airline Finance Risk Management (Aircraft leasing, risk management, fuel hedging etc.)
- Airline Accounting and Finance
- Sustainable Airline Finance Practices
Law and Regulations
- 5 years of experience in a Law firm (Aviation Law Department)
- Aviation industry experience and court experience
Management and Leadership
- 5 years of experience in human performance and/or leadership development programs
- Aviation industry experience would be an asset
PMI-related courses | PMI or coach certification
Security
- 10 years of experience in aviation security with direct management responsibilities in a civil aviation authority, airport, airline or security company
- 5 years of experience delivering training
Specific course requirements:
- Aviation Cyber Security (TSCS-59) | 10 years of experience in cyber security with a preference background in a civil aviation authority, airport, airline or security company
Travel and Tourism
- 10 years of experience as a specialist, manager, or director at TMC, International OTA. Expert in the travel sales process, customer account management, business travel etc.
Specific course requirements:
- Travel sales and marketing
- Managing a Travel Business
- Selling Leisure and Business Travel (TTTG-41)
- Innovation in travel industry, Destination Management, Sustainable travel and tourism
